No Excuses For Making These Copywriting Mistakes

105 14
Copywriting probably seems like a difficult skill to understand but there are times when you will need it to really get the job done. This can only be possible when you're sure of not making simple mistakes, like the ones we will be talking about in this article.

The first simple mistake you have to avoid is forgetting to learn about the product you will be promoting with your writing. If you don't know at least the basics of the product you are selling nobody is going to buy it from you. The reader will know instantly that you are trying to sell them something you know nothing about. This will obviously hit your conversion rate and bring down your sales. So always remember to know everything about the product you're writing about, right from the benefits to the features. Once you have learned all there is to know about the product you can creatively play up its benefits. If you are sure of your product knowledge this will show in your writing and your customer will get a fair view of what you are selling. Do not make the mistake of giving away too much for free to the client but still try to get all of the required information out there. This can be a fine line to walk, especially if you do not know how to properly balance your copy. The goal of your sales letter is to both educate the potential customer about what you are selling and, at the exact same time, create in him a desperate urge to buy from you. A good way to achieve this balance is to include as many benefits of the product as you can, so that your prospect knows exactly what he or she is getting out of it. You don't want to include a lot of specific features because, otherwise, the customer won't want to buy it. Creating the urge to buy means keep the fluff down while still including the important details that make the product desirable. Lots of copywriters fall in love with what they are writing about and forget that they are not writing copy for themselves but are writing to get someone else to buy what they are selling. Keep the customer at the front of your mind and make sure your sales copy is targeted for that person.

Hopefully you're aware that copywriting is a totally different animal than the English you sweated over in school. You'll need to write in a fairly simple way without all the big words students use to impress their teachers and professors. And you'll use those benefits for the purpose of writing bullet points in your copy. Your bullet points make your sales letter a lot more effective and make it easy for you to mention all the important points without actually confusing the prospect. Apart from that, your sales copy looks more professional and has more white space when you have bullet points. There's an expression in copywriting called, "the black wall of text" effect, and so white space helps reduce that. Overall, the only way you get make the most out of copywriting is to avoid the mistakes detailed in this article.
