First Communion Attire

• If you have strong sewing skills, make the child's First Communion attire as a gift. In the Roman Catholic tradition, young girls typically wear white dresses with a veil. Young boys wear dark-colored suits with a shirt and tie. Protestant girls wear nice dresses of any color, while boys typically wear shirts and ties. • A rosary is a traditional gift to give a child celebrating his First Communion. Make a homemade rosary from high-quality beads and silver or gold beading wire. A rosary consists of five strings of 10 beads in a row. Each string of 10 beads is separated by a single bead set apart. The rosary forms a beaded loop connected by a small metal image of a saint. Another small string of five beads extends from the saint's image. A metal cross traditionally forms the end of the beaded string extending from the loop. • If you have strong musical talents, make the First Communion celebrant a music CD. Choose a selection of religious hymns, spirituals, Christian rock songs or other religious music that the child enjoys. Record yourself playing the music or singing and burn a CD of the best tracks. The recipient will enjoy hearing your musical skills as she plays the songs during prayer time.
