How to Cut Metal With a Grinder
- 1). Put on your safety goggles and work gloves. These safety precautions will keep you from injuring yourself while working. While cutting metal, small, hot shards of material will be coming off the back of the spinning blade.
- 2). Turn on the grinder before you put the blade to the surface, because if you have the blade on the metal already, it may skip around and scratch the metal. This could also make the grinder hard to control and could lead to injury.
- 3). Lower the spinning blade to the metal surface you are going to cut.
- 4). Press the blade firmly into the metal to start cutting. The spinning of the blade will pull the grinder forward, which is helpful if you are cutting a straight line. If you are just cutting into the metal and do not want the grinder to move, hold the grinder firmly in place until you have cut through the metal.
