How to Manage an iPod in Ubuntu
- 1). Use gtkpod as a basic iPod management tool. This program can copy songs and playlists onto or from your iPod; however, it cannot organize or store your music library in the way that iTunes does. To use gtkpod with an iPod, organize your music on your hard drive in a way that you can recognize, as gtkpod can only display MP3 file names, not track info.
- 2). Manage your iPod with Banshee if you want an experience similar to iTunes. Banshee can organize and store your music, download podcasts and assign album artwork to songs. Banshee has integrated Last.fm and Wikipedia links, allowing you to find out more about songs and artists. It uses a simple drag-and-drop process to transfer music to your iPod.
- 3). Download Amarok if you want a music player that focuses on Internet music services like Last.fm and Jamendo, which is a resource to find independent artists. Amarok supports iPod integration and is compatible with most iPods; check the list of supported models to see if yours will work with the program (see Resources).
