The Dance That Touched My Heart
Before the theater this night I stand, My ticket clutched tightly in hand.
Not sure what I'm about to see, Curious as to the message it shall be.
Within the dark theater, I take my place, The same question upon each quizzical face.
What's this about? What does it mean? "Acts of Faith" is the name of the theme.
As the stage lights dim, And the crowd starts to hush, 4 dancers appear on stage in a rush.
3 girls and a boy, not one with a grin.
This is where my fascination begins.
The story they tell is one of pain and of grief, Of anguish, and the sorrow of each of three, Women who lived through such troubled lives, So real and so sad we each can't deny.
Their bodies move with such poise and such grace.
But the pain of their stories shows so on their face.
3 women subjected to 3 kinds of abuse, Emotional, physical and broken sexual taboos.
In a fray of scenes that just tear at my heart.
I wonder how to set my feelings apart, remembering things from my very own past, Scars on my heart that will forever last.
I can see the years and work each dancer has done, To excel as the dancer they have become.
Their muscles, their poise, their bodies that flow, From their tiny toe steps to the leaps that grow.
Their movements seem to be taken with ease, Pirouettes, lunges and drops to their knees, Each step, each move each wave of their hand, Can only be made by a body they command.
I focus on the dancers, and each of their styles, Yet one captures my attention and I feel myself smile, She has something special that captures my heart, Something visibly different that sets her apart.
Her legs appear to be chiseled from steel.
Each gesture she makes you can almost feel, A lifetime of practice, of work and of sweat, So that each move, her muscles will never forget.
I watch her spin and twirl and writhe on the floor, Interact with her partner through each dance score, Her passion, dedication and love for her art, Let you feel she is dancing from within her heart.
Her story so strong it draws me so close, I want to rush to her side and give her repose, Set her free from the misery and pain, It's then that my senses I do regain.
For she is a dancer with a story to tell, And by her perfection she's told it so well, I became part of it with intent to intervene, Though it wasn't necessary, It was just part of their scene.
Moved to tears by this incredible night, So many emotions that welled up inside.
This story is one that needs to be told.
