A Low Cost Kitchen Cabinet Refurbishment is Within Reach

103 11
A kitchen makeover generally involves changing the look of the cabinet doors, even if it does not involve changing the configuration of the kitchen.
If you were to rip out the entire cabinetry in the kitchen and replace it with brand new cupboards and drawers you would find yourself up for quite a large amount of money.
There is a more economical solution that will give you a kitchen that looks brand new for a fraction of the cost.
The solution is known as kitchen cabinet refacing and it involves giving the surfaces of the doors and drawers a makeover while still maintaining the configuration of the kitchen.
In many cases the internal structure of your kitchen cabinets are going to be sound and do not require any type of change at all, it's often just the outer surfaces that are looking tired and out of date.
The work required to improve the look of these doors often comes down to cleaning and minor repair work.
The process of kitchen cabinet refacing can be undertaken by a professional restorer either in your home or, if you prefer, in the workshop.
In either case the doors are simply removed from the cabinets so they can be properly treated.
The work that may be involved as part of a cabinet refacing job may be such things as stripping off the old paint, repairing and cracks or chips that have occurred in the surface of the doors, replacing the RTF foil if the doors were covered with this material, repainting with a new paint colour, replacing old door handles, door knobs or hinges.
When refacing the kitchen doors you will have the chance to completely change the look of your kitchen, turning your older style doors into something that looks completely modern and contemporary.
You have the option of turning wooden doors into metallic doors with a new covering.
You may also decide to cut panels out of the existing wooden doors to turn them into glass fronted display cabinet doors.
All of this can be achieved as part of the update process.
If you feel that you are capable of performing a few of the minor woodworking tasks required as part of the refacing process you may attempt to do the work yourself.
This may be a realistic goal if the doors are already in quite good condition and simply require a new painted finish or new hardware.
