In an honest assessment, "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" is as much a DJ Frank E record as an Enrique Iglesias one. However, that's not a negative. This song is ready for the party and the dancefloor. There is a "dirty" version that replaces the word "lovin'" with "f**cking," and, if the language doesn't bother you, it is the preferred cut. As Enrique Iglesias has explained in interviews, the direct nature of the song has a certain charm.

Beyond the immediacy of lyrics, the studio and turntable effects of DJ Frank E are the stars.

Pros
  • Forceful galloping beat
  • Engaging electronic effects
  • Charm of Enrique Iglesias' voice

Cons
  • Throwaway Ludacris rap

Description
  • Written by Enrique Iglesias, Lauren Christy, and Christopher Bridges
  • Produced by DJ Frank E
  • Released by Universal November 2010

Guide Review - Enrique Iglesias - "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E

DJ Frank E's status as an in-demand pop producer is rising. He visited the upper reaches of the pop singles chart earlier this year working with Alex Da Kid on "Airplanes" by B.o.B. Now he has two of his own production projects simultaneously on the rise. Here he works with Enrique Iglesias, while he is also the producer behind Chris Brown's hit "Yeah 3X." "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" powers along on an intense galloping beat decorated with electronic effects that rivet a listener or dancer's attention.

The contribution of Enrique Iglesias here should not be discounted.

There is a difficult to describe simple charm to his vocal performances that consistently pull audiences in to his songs. Enrique Iglesias has the gift of sounding sexually alluring while giving off no hint of threat. This makes the "dirty" version of the song even more sexy and inviting. Ludacris throws in a signature rap, but on this song it is simply icing on the cake. There is no particular necessity for the rap break.

Enrique Iglesias has made a powerful comeback to mainstream pop this year. Earlier this year "I Like It" became his first top 10 pop hit in the US in nine years. Now it looks like "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" will head there as well within a few weeks. For these hits Enrique Iglesias has largely left Latin influences behind. Instead, he has jumped the club dance bandwagon with quality work to become one of the world's top pop stars all over again.
