ADD - One Parent Tells His Story

103 25
Ron Receveur is a dentist who has been in practice for 27 years.
He knows plenty about medications as well as their side effects.
When Recevuer's second son was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, it occurred to him that his eldest son also most likely had the condition.
In fact, Receveur remembers that he had trouble sitting still while studying for exams in school.
Instead of opting for drugs to treat his ADHD children, drugs that Receveur, as a dentist, knew plenty about, he chose to treat his sons using therapy.
He is now an author and has become world renowned for his methods of treating children with ADHD.
Receveur thought that his one son was just lazy.
He would balk at doing homework, but be able to build an entire computer.
Like many parents of ADHD children, Receveur never got a diagnosis for his ADHD, but managed to not only succeed in college and dental school, but to have a thriving practice.
Many people who have ADHD have mirrored the success of Receveur.
They simply taught themselves to adapt.
For most children, adaptation can be difficult when they have ADHD.
This can cause behavioral problems in school that may even set the child back.
No child likes to be signaled out for being different than anyone else so this causes even more stress on the child.
They want to learn like the other kids, but their brains process things in a different way.
It is not wrong, just different.
Children with ADHD are like any other kid.
Some are intelligent, others average.
Most tend to be imaginative and have a creative drive.
Refusing to allow his children to be drugged was Receveur's first step in taking a proactive approach to the health of his two sons.
He used a system to help his children not overcome their ADHD, but to make the most of their skills.
This positive approach has enabled him to lead his children on the path to success.
Now he is spending time helping other parents cope with ADHD children.
Receveur is not alone in his desire to keep his children off of mind altering drugs with harmful side effects.
Most parents are quickly becoming aware of the side effects of the drugs and are not seeing much progress with their children.
In most cases, as the child becomes older, he or she refuses to take their medication.
And, as ADHD does not go away, they then have to deal with being an adult with ADHD.
This can be much more difficult than dealing with the condition and learning about how to cope in childhood.
A child who is treated with therapy for ADHD learns to adapt to his own way of thinking.
He can then process thoughts in the pattern that he or she is most comfortable with and begins to thrive in school, boosting the child's self confidence.
This prepares the child for the future and basically conditions them to work with their condition to their own benefit.
Receveur is one parent who has found success in treating his ADHD children without drugs or herbal remedies.
