How to Locate the RTC Battery in a Compaq Presario 1930 Laptop
- 1). Shut down the Compaq Presario 1930 and then shut the display lid. Remove the power cable and flip it over.
- 2). Locate the battery bay slide bar at the bottom of the case. Push the bar over and then remove the Presario 1930's battery pack.
- 3). Push the keyboard eject switch at the center of the case over to the "unlock" position. Turn the Presario 1930 over and open the display lid.
- 4). Grab the bottom edge of the keyboard and lift it up towards the display screen. Unplug the keyboard's cable and then set the entire keyboard aside.
- 5). Locate the large metal heat spreader with its attached thermal pad at the top of the motherboard. Remove the four screws holding the heat spreader in place with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the heat spreader.
- 6). Remove the four screws from the battery charger board at the left end of the motherboard. Pull off the board to access the Presario 1930's RTC battery.
- 7). Unplug the cable from the side of the 1930's RTC battery. Remove the battery and set the new RTC battery in its place. Reconnect the cable.
- 8). Put the battery charger board, heat spreader, keyboard and battery back into their appropriate locations. Power on the Presario 1930 laptop.
- 9). Press "F1" repeatedly as the 1930 boots up until the BIOS menu appears. Press "F5" to load the default BIOS values and then press "F10" to save your changes and restart the laptop.
