Cut the wood to your desired dimension. A good first block would be 5 x 3 x 1 3/4", which can easily be cut from a 2 x 4. - 2). Sand the block. Be sure to sand the sharpness off the edges. If you want a more well-worn look, you can round off the corners and edges to give your wood block a rustic touch.
- 3). Make sure the block is clear of sawdust, dirt or grime, then paint a base coat in one color with the 1" paint brush.
- 4). Let the paint dry. A bit of light sanding over the paint will aid in the rustic, well-worn appearance of the finished block.
- 5). Use an art paint brush to decorate the block with words or images. Your wood block can feature slogans or family mottos, holiday images and/or decorative patterns.
