How to Test a CCFL

    • 1). Power off your laptop and unplug the power cable.

    • 2). Remove all screws from the plastic frame around the LCD screen of the laptop.

    • 3). Pull the frame off of the laptop screen by the sides and corners. The rectangular backlight power board will now be visible mounted below, or to the side of, the LCD screen.

    • 4). Turn on your computer.

    • 5). Insert the included leads into the two ports on the front of your multimeter. The red lead goes in the "+" port and the black lead goes in the "-" port.

    • 6). Turn on the multimeter and switch the dial on the front of the unit to "V" so that it reads power in volts.

    • 7). Touch the black lead to a non-electronic area such as a desk. This will ground the multimeter.

    • 8). Touch the tip of the red lead to the power board. If there is no reading, the CCFL backlight is likely dead and needs to be replaced.
