How to Get Beats for a Computer Recording
- 1). Order a package of loops from a reputable publisher such as Future Loops, Loopmasters or Big Fish Audio. Packages tend to be crafted around musical genres, such as R&B, hip-hop and electronic dance music, so you might want to order multiple packages depending on the styles of music you plan to create. If Reason is your DAW of choice, then make sure the loops you purchase come in REX format.
- 2). Copy the loops to your computer's hard drive in an organized folder structure that makes them easy to find. Most loop packages come on CDs or DVDs, but optimal performance is achieved by having them directly available on your hard drive, so make sure you have lots of extra storage space to hold all of your new beat loops.
- 3). Load beats into your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). This step depends on the particular DAW you use. In Reason, you load REX files into a Dr. Rex Loop Player. In most other DAWs you can load loops directly onto an audio track.
- 4). Adjust the master tempo in your DAW to your liking and begin recording vocals and instruments on additional tracks.
