Making a Belt Out of Neckties

103 34
Need a creative idea for all your extra neckties? Think about turning them into a belt! Your friends will be impressed with your crafty ways due to this funky accessory as it is not only unique but also colorful.
These are the steps to follow to construct your very own necktie belt.
You will need the following supplies: - Two colored neckties (same size, different colors) - Two small safety pins - Pair of scissors - Tape measure - Tailor's chalk or a fabric crayon Your ties should be measured.
Make sure that your necktie belt isn't too large to fit through a regular belt loop so you want to have most loops with a maximum size.
Due to this, the belt must measure two inches or less in width.
Lay the ties face down on your level work surface.
By using your measuring tape mark where the tie hits 2'' in width.
Now draw a horizontal chalk line.
Repeat these steps with the second tie.
You must trim away all the extras.
Cut off once you have marked the parts of your neckties that are too wide for the belt.
You'll be cutting off the bottom few inches of each necktie.
Dispose of these pieces after they are cut off.
Connect the two ties.
You can put your neckties together now at the right width for your belt.
Lay one tie on top of another tie, with the "pretty" sides facing and touching each other.
The back of each tie should be facing out.
Measure to one quarter of an inch beneath the belt top with your ruler or measuring tape, and then mark this spot with chalk.
This is where the ties are going to join up.
You can now fasten the two ties together on your one quarter inch chalk line by using a safety pin.
Attach an additional safety pin here, pushing through the first pin.
This allows the two ties to be fastened.
You can sew the two neck ties together on your ¼" chalk mark but leaving them just pinned together does allow you to mix and match your ties for whatever mood takes you.
Try it on.
After joining the two neckties the belt is pretty much done.
But you should try it on first, to make sure it fits right.
A necktie belt is usually worn to one side of your pants and so it hangs against either leg.
Catch hold of the safety pinned belt part and hold it tightly against your hip.
Then drape the neckties through the belt loops to check how the necktie belt will look.
Tie the belt in a knot or two to keep it stable.
Simply tie a few more knots in it to shorten it if you feel your necktie belt is too long at this stage.
