How to Mount a Spare Tire on the Inside of a Jeep
- 1). Measure the size of the spare tire to ensure that it will fit inside the cargo area. The spare tire will be laid horizontally across the cargo area.
- 2). Center the tire mount, which is the metal piece that will hold the tire in place. Use the measuring tape as a guide to center the tire mount. Mark the four holes of the mount using a pencil.
- 3). Drill the four holes for securing the bed mount with the power drill. The drill should penetrate the cargo area inside the Jeep all the way through so that a 3-inch bolt can be used to hold the tire mount in place.
- 4). Place the tire mount over the freshly drilled holes. Lubricate the nuts and bolts to prevent corrosion. Place one bolt in each of the drilled holes.
- 5). Screw the nuts to the bolts by hand from underneath the Jeep. Tighten each bolt with a wrench.
- 6). Place the spare tire horizontally onto the tire mount. Secure the tire in place by screwing on the lug nuts to the tire mount.
