"Sir Billi" Marks Sir Sean Connery"s First Animated Film

April 14, 2010 - As hard as it is to believe, Sean Connery's unmistakable voice has never been heard in an animated film before. Sir Billi, the first full-length animated movie from Scotland, marks the animated feature film debut of Connery who will be providing the voice of the lead character. Connery lent his voice to a CG character before, but not in an animated film. In 1996 Connery was heard but not seen as Draco the dragon in DragonHeart starring Dennis Quaid.
Currently in post-production, Sir Billi was directed by Sascha Hartmann and written by his wife, Tessa.

Sir Connery is executive producing. Sir Billi also features the voices of Alan Cumming, Miriam Margolyes, Alex Norton, Ford Kiernan, Barbara Rafferty, Greg Hemphill, Kieron Elliot, Ruby Wax, John Amabile, Larry Sullivan, Chris Jai Alex and Amy Sacco.

In an interesting side note, Sir Billi reunites singer Dame Shirley Bassey and Connery for the first time since the 1965 James Bond movie, Goldfinger. Dame Bassey will be performing the film's title track, "Guardian of the Highlands."

Connery released this statement on his involvement: "I'm excited to be a part of this incredible film and Scotland's first animated feature. Sir Billi is truly a first class film, with an exceptional cast, and is sure to delight audiences of all ages."

And if I hadn't read this in the official press release issued by Billi Productions, I probably wouldn't believe this synopsis: "When tragedy strikes in the Scottish Highlands, there can be only one man for the job - Sir William Sedgewick, aka Sir Billi (Connery)!

An adventure story about an inimitable Highland hero – a grandpa and active senior skateboarding veterinarian who goes above and beyond the call of duty fighting villainous policemen and powerful lairds in a battle to save an illegal fugitive – Bessie Boo the beaver!"
