Black and White Bathroom Themes
- A bathroom is given an antique look when outfitted in a smooth antique white base with black accents. For example, antique white walls with white fixtures, such as wall sconces, and black accents, like small black shelves or apothecary cabinets, give an "older" air to your bathroom. A sink skirt and curtains made of black and white toile in a classic antique-looking fabric add the finishing touches to your room.
- Black and white damask is a richly woven fabric, usually of two colors, that has a repeating design in a lighter color on a darker background. This design adds a rich, regal feel to any room or occasion. Damask can be added as wallpaper, in towels, as a rug or as small accents, depending on how heavy you want your damask feel to be in your room. Using the damask as a primary decorative element in your room, such as for the wallpaper, will make the room seem a bit more heavy and elegant while keeping the damask smaller, perhaps with an area rug or accessory, will keep it lighter and a bit more airy.
- Stripes can be vertical or horizontal and thick or thin; they can add an aged look or can look starkly modern. No matter how you use stripes in your bathroom, they add a strong visual impact, and the contrast of black and white stripes only adds to this impact. Stripes can be the foremost decorative element, such as in the wall covering -- either wallpapered or painted -- or used in an accessory, such as the towels, rug or artwork. No matter how you use stripes, however, they will give your bathroom new life.
- A traditional black and white checkerboard floor with an antique claw-foot tub, French doors, bright windows and black and white accents looks both clean and inviting. This black and white bathroom can be dressed up to look more modern, with streamlined accessories such as shelves or lamps, or filled with ruffled romantic pieces, like curtains and sink skirts, to look more traditional.
