How to Ruin a Lawn Mower Engine
- 1). Leave fuel in the gas tank of the mower when it is stored for long periods of time or until the next season. Let fuel sit in the tank so that it separates and gum begins to form in the tank and gas line.
- 2). Leave old oil in the mower engine and do not change it periodically. Allow the old oil to simply do the job as there is no need to take the time or effort to change it out with new oil.
- 3). Avoid checking the oil before each use. Rather, simply rely on a best guess as to where the oil level should be based on when oil was last added.
- 4). Never clean the spark plug by removing it. Allow carbon and dirt to build up on the plug relying on the fact that if it still starts it should be okay.
- 5). Avoid sharpening the blade for a better cut and never balance the blade following sharpening. An unbalanced blade cannot possibly hurt the engine by being off balance and placing greater stress as it operates.
