An hour and a half later we returned home and I was on the policy, significantly increasing my parent's premium.
While the increase in premium when adding a teenager has not changed, many things have.
These days I obviously have my own car insurance policy and my parents, up until recently, still had that original auto policy from 15 years ago.
A few months ago my parents switched that same auto coverage over to an independent agent.
But the process was much less time consuming.

After realizing they could reduce their bill by half, they decided to switch.

Furthermore, they were able to e-sign their paperwork online.
They never had to leave the comforts of home and they had a new policy that included more coverage for almost half the price.
There are three lessons in this story: Lesson #1: Teenagers are expensive and, unfortunately, that will never change.
Lesson #2: It's a good idea to shop your car insurance around every once in a while to make sure you are getting a fair price.
