Art Projects for Bible Camps
- The fish is a symbol of Christianity because Jesus told his disciples to be "fishers of men." Provide each child with a small washcloth, a bar of soap, a rubber band, foam pieces and glue. Place the soap in the middle of the washcloth. Wrap the washcloth around the soap. Tie the ends of the washcloth together with the rubber band. The soap is the fish's body, and the leftover cloth is the tail. Cut out two eyes, a mouth and two fins from foam. Glue the foam to the fish. You can also draw on the face and fins with permanent markers so the children can use the fish in the bath.
- Tie dye is a fun camp project for kids of all ages. Tie in a Christian theme by pre-printing the shirts with a Bible verse or Christian message. Give each child a tie-dye kit and a lot of rubber bands. Wrap the shirts with the rubber bands. Dip the shirts into the dye, then allow the dye to soak for about one hour. Rinse the shirts in water until it runs clear. Allow the shirts to air dry, then launder as normal.
- Use this craft after a lesson on Sampson. Give each child a 1/2-pint milk or cream carton, with the top opened all of the way, construction paper, scissors, glue, potting soil and grass seeds. Cover the milk carton in flesh-colored paper. Have the children draw a face onto the box, minus the top of the head. Fill the box with dirt. Sprinkle grass seeds on top of the soil. Add a 1/4-inch layer of dirt on top of the seeds. Water the seeds frequently, and the seeds will soon grow, just like Sampson's long hair.
- Give each child a tote and fabric paints. Provide the children with an assortment of Bible-themed stamps and stencils. Allow the children to decorate the bags as they wish. If you want, you can tie the craft into a specific story or message. Allow the totes to dry for 24 hours before giving them back to the children.
