    • 1). Store the chemicals in a cool, dry area where there is a vastly reduced threat that water will penetrate packaging, or mix with the chemicals. Temperature extremes present another hazard: Never store the chemicals in freezing temperatures or an area hotter than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the chemicals out of direct sunlight. Keep the chemicals closed or sealed in the packaging it was sold in, to protect the chemicals in case of water leaks in the area where these substances are being stored. It is recommended that you only store chemicals in the containers or packaging they were sold in. Many a pool chemical, such as chlorinated isocyanurates, lithium hypochlorite, sodium bicarbonate, potassium monopersulfate, hyrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, copper and silver compounds and muriatic acid, can exhibit a pressure buildup, which can cause corrosive or poisonous gases to be released, if not properly stored in the breathable packaging in which it was sold.

    • 2). Prevent the chemicals from mixing. Avoid storing incompatible chemicals next to each other or above and below each other, in case one or both of the chemical receptacles begin leaking. Never mix any types of chemicals together, even if they are the same types and you are trying to combine them into one container.

    • 3). Perform housekeeping on the storage area frequently. Remove towels, rags, trash and debris. These items may become flammable if exposed to the chemicals. Remove all combustible or flammable materials. These items should never be stored in the same area as swimming pool chemicals.

    • 4). Store swimming pool cleansers out of the reach of children and pets.
