How to Build a Recurve Bow
- 1). Cut your desired length of a bamboo shinai in half. Each piece should be half the length as the archer. These will be used as the limbs for the bow to connect the bow string and the handle.
- 2). Sand the bamboo to a smooth finish.
- 3). Steam both of the limbs with boiling water then bend them around an extremely large and round object, such as a large tire. Once the limbs are surly bent, they will be in a half-circle shape. The limbs should bend away from you when in shooting position.
- 4). Sand your desired piece of wood that will be used to create the handle. It be oak, for example.
- 5). Spread strong glue or a strong laminate on each end of the custom handle and bind each of the limbs to the handle.
- 6). Cut a slice on the tip the ends to make the knocks and wrap the handle extremely taut in a chord to keep the glue together.
