106 14
It's a great week for hip hop songs and rock. Any fears that either genre is fading can be countered by the quality of this week's releases. The list below is a combination of top single releases and album tracks for the week.

1. Seether - "Country Song"

Hard rock band Seether preview their sixth studio album with this song that is definitely not a country song. However, it does kick off with a clear swamp country feel. When the noisy rock guitars and shouted backing chorus kick in you know that Seether are delivering straightforward melodic heavy rock. The album Holding On To Strings Better Left to Fray is due in stores May 17, 2011.

2. Snoop Dogg - "Boom" featuring T-Pain

Built around a big sample from Yaz's electropop dance classic "Situation," Snoop Dogg loudly proclaims that he is back. The song could also be a major return to chart success for producer Scott Storch. T-Pain contributes the chorus with heavy echo effects. The album Doggumentary is due out March 29, 2011.

Lupe Fiasco's latest album LASERS was released this week and one of the most interesting tracks is "All Black Everything." It is a rap fantasy about the negatives in black history being reversed. Once again Lupe Fiasco delivers thought provoking words and ideas in a highly melodic manner that just might have you singing along.

5. Matthew Morrison - "Summer Rain"

Glee star Matthew Morrison steps out on his own. The gentle happy pop sound is reminiscent of Jack Johnson. The sexual wink in the words will leave many adult listeners smiling. A full-length album is expected in May 2011.

6. Avril Lavigne - "Goodbye"

Avril Lavigne's new album Goodbye Lullaby is a rather downbeat affair. One of the best songs is "Goodbye" produced and written by Avril Lavigne herself. The stripped down beauty here makes me want to hear more of her on her own.
