Check-in Requirements for Kids on Jetblue
- Infants, or any child younger than 2 years of age who is not a ticketed passenger, are not required to check in for flights because they do not have a ticket. If your child is an un-ticketed infant, he is sitting on your lap in your seat. While check-in for your un-ticketed child is not necessary, you are required to list your child as an un-ticketed child when you book your ticket. When you check yourself in, whether online or in person at the airport, you will receive a boarding pass with your child's name on it simply for the airline's records.
- Unaccompanied minors are defined as children between the ages of 5 and 13 who are traveling without an adult. To check in your unaccompanied minor, you must appear in person with your child at the ticketing counter for JetBlue in the airport on the day of departure. You must present photo identification for yourself; and provide your cell phone number, home phone number and your home address. You are required to check your child in, check his luggage in and request a gate pass for yourself if necessary. A gate pass is a pass that allows you special access into the airport terminal despite your lack of ticket. You can walk your child to his gate and watch as he boards the flight and takes off. Birth certificates are required for your child to check in.
- Children younger than 5 are not permitted to travel as unaccompanied minors and children 14 or older are no longer considered unaccompanied minors when traveling alone. If you are flying with a child younger than 5 that has her own seat or your child 14 years of age or older is flying alone, the check-in process is the same as it is for any other person. You can check your child in online 24 hours before departure or you can check them in at the airport. Your 14 year old can check in alone at the desk if you opt to go that route. All that's needed for check in is a birth certificate.
- Online check in for JetBlue is a feature that allows you to logon to your computer and check in for your flight or your child's flight up to 24 hours before the flight is scheduled to depart. All that is required for online check in is your flight number, confirmation number and last name. You print your own boarding pass and bypass the JetBlue Airlines check-in desks to head straight for security. Unaccompanied minors are the only children not permitted to bypass the JetBlue check-in desk when checking in online before a flight.
