How to Make a Picture Rail Moulding
- 1). Measure the room to determine how much molding you will need. Be sure to buy extra to account for cutting.
- 2). Prime and paint the molding before installing. Allow the paint to dry before working with it.
- 3). Measure six inches down from the ceiling and make marks around the room. If you have a really low or high ceiling, you can make adjustments with these measurements.
- 4). Measure the walls to determine the length of molding you will need on each wall.
- 5). Cut the molding to fit. Cut a 45-degree angle on the ends where you will need to fit molding pieces together.
- 6). Hold the molding onto the wall and drill a pilot hole where the nail will go. Try to drill into a wall stud if possible.
- 7). Hammer a finishing nail through the pilot hole in the molding and into the wall.
- 8). Continue around the room, installing the molding.
- 9). Spackle the nail heads so they don't show.
- 10
Caulk the seams of the molding.
