Advice on Buying Motorcycle Insurance

103 23
Like cars, motorcycles being used in public are bound by certain laws relating to insurance.
They must be covered, at the very least, for third parties.
This is so that if you cause damage to someone else's person or property, they will be insured for the costs that are incurred.
If, however, you want more cover for yourself then it is worth paying extra for third party, fire and theft or fully comprehensive motorcyle insurance.
Before choosing a policy, think about your biking habits and requirements.
For example, do you want to be insured for breakdown recovery, or do you want your helmet and leathers to be included in the policy? Are you going to be biking abroad in the near future? It may be best to have overseas cover as part of your standard policy rather than buying separate cover for the trip.
You will want to look at any details of cancellation in case this is necessary as well.
Remember also that policies do not necessarily include pillion passengers as a matter of course.
If you are not covered for this, the premiums may be cheaper, but remember that you are required by law to have cover for these passengers.
Check that your policy includes it if you need it.
It is even possible to get cover for your no-claims bonus.
Younger people will experience higher premiums, but there are ways to keep costs as low as possible.
The power of the engine and make of the bike, as well as where it is kept, will affect how much it costs to cover it.
As with any insurance policy, accepting a higher excess will bring down the premiums.
However, the greater your excess, the more you will have to pay yourself out of any claim you make.
If your motorcycle is a vintage model, you can still get cover for it and it may even cost less - these bikes have a lower probability of being claimed for.
Shop around for your motorbike insurance to find the best deal, but remember not to go immediately for the cheapest policy you can find.
It is important that all your needs and requirements are met by the cover, even if it costs more.
