Donating a Car to a Movie Studio

• 1). Contact the studio. Making a movie is a complicated effort, with hordes of people all responsible for different duties. The only way you can find out if the studio can use your car is to talk to someone who knows what's going on. A studio might have an entire department dedicated to finding and procuring vehicles, or they may be able to put you in contact with producers or staff who are looking for them.
  
  
• 2). Decide to donate or sell. A movie production is not typically considered a charity. It will likely have a budget to buy props for the film, and if your car is the kind the studio needs, it might be willing to buy it outright. However, the studio might have a charitable program through which you can arrange the donation. You'll have to talk to them to find out.
  
  
• 3). Determine if this donation would yield any tax breaks, and whether that affects your decision to give. Car donations normally gain a tax break only if they are made to a charitable organization. Even then, it has to be the right type of charity. Movie studios, movie production companies or other organizations typically involved in producing films are not usually organized as charities.
  
  
• 4). If you decide to donate, you will have to transfer the title without encumbrances. All loans or liens associated with the vehicle need to be paid off before you can pass it on to the studio.
