Feng Shui Moving Tips
- Before buying a house, you can often learn something about the home's energy by inquiring after its previous inhabitants. Homes that have seen a lot of illness, unhappiness or struggles, are typically believed to have very poor energy. Homes that have hosted happy, successful families are thought to have good energy. Some homes have a long history of inhabitants who have lived there only briefly. In these cases, it is prudent to find out why these families left. If they moved out because they were soon able to afford a larger home, this is a good sign. New homes are the exception to these cases, as they have no history to evaluate.
- Feng shui centers around many rules regarding the direction and shape of certain rooms or elements in the house. Homes on a square or rectangular shaped lot are preferable. A large front yard is very auspicious, but you should avoid a home with a long, straight path leading up to it. The front yard should also be slightly smaller than the back. Landscaping should be kept to a minimum, and there should be no trees directly in front of the door. A home with a hill or building behind it is better grounded, while a home set atop a hill is prone to loss, as things can easily fall away from this position.
Inside the house, examine the layout of each of the rooms. Bedrooms should not be placed over a kitchen, laundry room, or open space. Bathrooms should not be placed atop a kitchen or dining area. Either of these arrangements is believed to promote illness within the house. The Northwest area of the home should be free from any elements of fire, such as a fireplace. Open flames in the Northwest invite difficulties for the man in the house. Likewise, the Southwest corner of the home indicates the fortune of the woman of the house. Avoid a home with a closet or bathroom located in the Southwest corner of the home. - Moving into a new home provides ample opportunities to bring good chi into your home. Clutter is notorious for disrupting the flow of good energy. As you are packing, get rid of any items that you no longer need or use. Avoid bringing broken items into your new house. Anything in disrepair promotes bad chi. Examine your new home for drafts and seal them off as soon as possible to prevent the loss of health and money. As you arrange your new home, consult a book of feng shui to determine the best placement for your furniture in each room.
