Riverboat cruises are an enjoyable way to experience the rivers of Missouri; most notably, the Mississippi. Typically, riverboat cruises in the state of Missouri focus on history, with replicas of older paddle boats, tours and general ambiance. Because of Mark Twain's origins in Hannibal, many of these cruises, especially down the Mississippi, are focused on that particular angle of history and lore. - The Gateway Arch Riverfront in St. Louis offers private and group dinner riverboat cruises on the Mississippi. Highlights of the dinner cruise include a narrated historical guide of the arch and surrounding area. Drinks are included with dinner. With private cruises, you're essentially able to create your own agenda, and are given the choice between two of their 19th century paddle boat replicas, named Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher.
- The Mark Twain Riverboat company in Hannibal, home town of the author, offers sightseeing, dinner, and Saturday night jazz cruises. The sightseeing cruises are one hour long, have an open snack bar, and focus on river history, legends, and points of interest. Dinner cruses and Saturday night cruises both feature dinner, though the latter features a live jazz band and is more geared toward adults. The vessel is a replica of an old-fashioned river paddle boat, and has the capacity to hold up to 400 passengers.
- Branson Landing Cruises offers a river boat cruise on the Lake Queen, another replica of the old-fashioned paddle boats, in Branson's White River. This cruise features a narrated guide through the history of Branson, with highlights that include the Lake Tayencomo Bridge, Mt. Branson, the Branson Landing Waterfront and a barbecue lunch.
