    Warrant Officer Selection Process

    • 1). Non-military personnel can begin the process by visiting a local Army recruiting office for initial screening requirements. Military applicants should view requirements and download necessary forms from the U.S. Army Recruiting Command website (see Resources).
Warrant officer applicants must be U.S. citizens with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. In addition, an applicant cannot have any major law violations prohibiting the ability to obtain a secret or higher security clearance. Applicants are also required to meet the Army's height and weight standards based on age and gender.

    • 2). All civilian applicants will take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test and must achieve a General Technical (GT) score of 110 or higher. Applicants must also undergo an enlistment physical examination, as well as an Army flight physical. Next, the warrant officer applicant will take a Flight Aptitude Selection Test (FAST) and must score a 90 or higher. Finally, the applicant will appear before a warrant officer selection board for recommendation into the program.
Military personnel submit an application packet to the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Recruiting Branch. The packet consists of a resume, education credentials, recent physical, Department of the Army (DA) photo, reference letters and applicable military application forms. Recruiting personnel screen all application packets for completeness and submit them for consideration by the next convening warrant officer selection board. Applicants must meet the specific experience and education requirements for their chosen specialty to receive consideration.

    • 3). Non-military selected warrant officer candidates attend the nine-week basic military training course as an enlisted soldier. This course teaches all new Army recruits the basic skills and knowledge necessary to perform the duties of a soldier. Military candidates should report straight to the Warrant Officer Course in accordance with assignment instructions.

    • 4). After basic training, candidates report directly to Fort Rucker, Alabama, for the six-week Warrant Officer Course with instruction in advanced leadership and administration. This course evaluates a candidate's ability to perform assigned tasks under pressure.

    • 5). Successful Warrant Officer Course graduates advance to Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) and move on to specialized training courses in their military occupational specialty (MOS). These courses range from a few weeks to over a year in duration. Aviation warrant officers remain at Fort Rucker for training on one of the Army's elite rotary wing aircraft.

    • 6). Once all specialized training is completed, new warrant officers report to field units and begin putting their first-class training to use in support of the Army's global mission. Warrant officers will continue to learn and grow as technical leaders throughout their military career.
