The excitement is almost immeasurable, you finally got pregnant and your life is complete.
Just a little less than a year to go and you will have your family started.
A life of happy family outings; Disneyland and soccer are just around the corner.
Through all of this excitement, why does it have to be weighed down by nausea? Well, what exactly is the cause of nausea during pregnancy? Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer of what the cause of morning sickness is but, because of the many changes happening in the woman's body during pregnancy, it is easy to understand the body's reaction is not so pleasant.
Right after becoming pregnant, your body is transforming drastically, releasing many different hormones.
Like any drug, hormones have side effects, and one is morning sickness.
One hormone that is released is believed to be a big reason for morning sickness.
The hormone is called human chronic gonadotropin (HCG).
This hormone is created by the embryo soon after conception, after which the placenta takes over in the creation.
The whole point of HCG is to sustain the production of progesterone, another hormone that is critical for pregnancy.
Another hormone Progesterone could be another cause of morning sickness.
However, Progesterone plays a vitally important role; because it helps the body to relax the muscles in the uterus, which in turn prevents early childbirth.
But of course, Progesterone has side effects, which can relax the stomach and intestines, which in turn releases excess acids in the stomach and therefore nausea and vomiting.
Estrogen, another hormone produced early in the pregnancy, could be another cause of the nausea and vomiting.
Estrogen is always present during child bearing years but, it rises rapidly in early pregnancy.
The hormones play such an important role during pregnancy, but do have side effects as mentioned; hormones are not the only cause.
Morning sickness could be triggered by other aspects of the body.
I am just blown away on how the different senses of the body are enhanced, it's almost as if we transform into super hero's having the ability to smell a mile away, or taste every ingredient in a particular dish.
Dealing with pregnancy is no easy task; stress can also have an effect.
Some women could be inclined to having nausea and vomiting during pregnancy due to abdominal response to stress.
There is no hard evidence of this but, the more vomiting and nausea that takes place causes more stress which adds to the vicious cycle.
Although the cause of morning sickness is still somewhat unclear, experts do know, it does not usually last throughout the entire pregnancy.
Typically, by the end of the third month the blood level of these hormones level off or begin to level off.
Which in turn, helps with intestinal maladies that are caused by these hormones and therefore, the morning sickness begins to reside.
