How to Phase Out Infant Formula Feedings
- 1). Choose the date you would like to start introducing cow's milk and phasing out infant formula. It can be any time after the baby's first birthday.
- 2). For the first bottle of the day, add 2 oz. of cow's milk to your baby's bottle of formula. For example, if your baby drinks 6 oz. at a time, mix 4 oz. of formula with 2 oz. of cow's milk.
- 3). Watch for any signs of milk allergy, such as loose stools or a rash anywhere on the body.
- 4). On the second day, add 2 oz. of cow's milk to each bottle. Then on the third day, add 4 oz. to each bottle, monitoring the baby's reaction, if any.
- 5). Feed baby a full bottle of whole milk. If your baby was used to warm formula, warm the milk to the same temperature. If your baby seems to enjoy the milk, feel free to complete the transition, phasing out formula entirely. Otherwise keep mixing in a small amount of formula until the transition is successful.
