Creepy and Curious Home Decor

106 13
Scary looking home decor is not all that that uncommon. And we are not talking about plastic covered couches here, although those are not uncommon either, unfortunately.

This is furniture and decor that has a twist of fantasy, an element of the macabre, or associations that some may find downright unsettling or grotesque. Some of it may even be witty or tongue-in-cheek.

1. Gargoyle Throne Statue

Gargoyles have been present as architectural features for a long, long time. Think of Gothic cathedrals, and you are very likely to think of gargoyles as well. Rain spouts were often designed to look like gargoyles, and even today, you might find them on modern buildings that are inspired by Gothic structures.

Gargoyles were also used as small statues, often in gardens. If you think you would like a gargoyle in your garden, take a look at this one sitting on a Celtic knot-embellished throne. Designed by collectible artist Liam Manchester, the gargoyle has finely worked details such as wings and claws, and has a glare that can turn your garden visitors into stone.More »

2. Sitting Gargoyle Plinth Cast Stone Fountain

The word gargoyle comes from Old French "gargouille" and also the Late Latin "gurgulio". Both these terms mean throat, and that is why you have gargoyles spitting out water as rain spouts.

There is something about a monster spewing water from its mouth that just fascinates us. And this gargoyle fountain features a gargoyle fashioned from cast stone concrete. It doesn't require any plumbing as the water simply recirculates.

3. Dragon Weathervane

Dragons, while not exactly creepy to us anymore, have been a part of folklore from ancient times. Giant flying monsters that wreak fire, death and havoc on hapless villagers, kidnapping princesses and guarding vast treasure troves, dragons have had a role to play in many an ancient tale.

Tame a dragon, and you'll be safe from others, and if that thought makes perfect sense to you, then you may want to take a look at this dragon weather vane. It is made from copper with a Blue Verde finish that is acid-washed and waxed to preserves its rich luster. Your very own dragon to protect you.More »

6. Kyle Bunting Louis in Extremis Chairs and Pillows

The Kyle Bunting Louis in Extremis chairs caught a lot of attention when they were first introduced in 2010. Designed by Geoffrey Bradfield for Kyle Bunting, the hot pink and white skulls and butterflies were unlikely motifs for the chairs with French frames.
