Height of Navy Regulation Women's Heels
- The black heeled pumps have been a part of the naval woman's uniform since the early 1940s. Unlike the uniform itself, the pump style has changed very little over the past 30 years. Still an issued item, the new female recruit brings home at least one pair of black leather pumps.
- The women's uniform heel made of smooth leather or synthetic completes the Naval Service Dress Blue Uniform. No open heels or toes are allowed with any naval uniform.
- Regulations suggest that the heel of the pump not exceed 2 5/8 inches in height. The heel width cannot exceed 1 3/4 inches. Uniform regulations prohibit the wearing of wedge heels with the uniform.
- A smooth leather pair of pumps with a 2-inch heel provided at boot camp completes the requirement of two pairs of shoes.
- Worn with the dress uniform skirt, the black pump gives the uniform a complete professional suit-like appearance. Worn with the formal dinner dress uniform skirt, the high gloss heel gives the uniform a formal evening dress look.
