Mold is a common problem in many homes. Mold is a fungus that lives and thrives in dark and damp locations. There are several methods to cure and remove mold from your home. Many of these methods are natural and do not use harsh chemicals. - Vinegar has long been used to deodorize and disinfect. According to CBSNews.com, distilled white vinegar is 90 percent effective against mold. Vinegar removes tough odors as well as mold from various surfaces. If your clothing has mold growing on it, take the item outside and dust off as much of the surface mold as possible. Launder the clothing as you normally would, adding 1 cup of distilled white vinegar to the wash cycle.
For hard surfaces with mold, fill a spray bottle with distilled white vinegar and spray the surface. Allow the vinegar to soak for 20 minutes. Wipe the area clean with a damp cloth. - Tea tree oil is made from the leaves of the plant Melaleuca alternifolia. The leaves of this native Australian plant have been used for tea. Tea tree oil has both antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, which makes it an all-natural alternative to harsh chemicals. Pour four cups of cool water into a clean spray bottle and add 4 teaspoons of tea tree oil. Swish the bottle gently to mix the water and tea tree oil. Spray the item thoroughly and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Scrub the surface with a damp sponge. Reapply the tea tree oil as often as needed.
- The seeds and pulp of the grapefruit is used to make grapefruit seed extract. Like the tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. Unlike tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract is odorless. In a clean spray bottle, pour 2 cups of cool water and add 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract. Swish the bottle around to mix the water with the extract. Liberally wet the molded surface with the mixture and allow to sit for several minutes. Wipe the item clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
