How to Remove the Old Frames for Replacement Windows
- 1). Slide a pry bar under the trim on the outside of the house. Hammer the pry bar into place and pull up on the trim to remove it. Remove all the trim.
- 2). Move to the inside of the house and pry off the interior trim in the same manner. Pull up the trim on all sides of the window.
- 3). Slide a reciprocating saw with a demolition blade into the gap between the window frame and the jamb of the window. Cut around the window on all sides to break off any nails that are attaching the window to the framing.
- 4). Tilt the bottom window sash toward the interior of the house and pull back to remove it from the frame. Slide the top sash down and remove it in the same manner. Cut directly through the middle of the frame along the window sill with a reciprocating saw.
- 5). Pull up on the frame where the cut was made to free it from the opening. Pull around the entire area of the frame to loosen it from the caulk holding it in place. Continue until the frame is loosened. Push it out of the opening from the inside of the house. Inspect the area to make sure all debris left over from the frame has been removed.
