Finish-the-Sentence Baby Shower Games
- Mad Libs are a fun way to get your guests thinking creatively about the guest of honor. Write a very short story before the party starts about the expectant mother and her baby. Leave out key words and put blank spaces asking for a specific type of word, be it noun, verb or adjective. Distribute the stories at some point during the shower and have guests fill them out. Read them out loud to the guest of honor.
- You can also use sentence-finishing games for a contest to see who knows the expectant mother best. Write a number of half-sentences about motherhood, with a blank space to finish them. Examples include, "The thought of changing a diaper makes me really (blank)" and "My baby will be the best in the world at (blank)." Have the expectant mother fill out the sheet and ask guests to do the same, based on how they think the expectant mother will answer. The guest with the highest number of responses matching the mother's wins.
- Use a sentence-finishing game to harness the creativity of all your guests and write a short story about the expectant mother. Sit all your guests in a circle. You can do this game either orally or written. Ask the first person in the circle to say or write a half-sentence about the mother, such as "Linda couldn't wait to (blank)." Have the next person finish that sentence and begin another one. Keep going until you have a funny narrative about the guest of honor.
- Finish the sentences of a mother's letter to her coming baby. Ask the expectant mother to write a letter in advance to her baby about her hopes for his life. At some point during the baby shower, read the letter out loud but pause midway through each sentence. Ask guests to call out guesses about how the sentences finish. Award prizes for guesses that are correct as well as for most creative sentence endings.
