The Case For Ron Paul - A Republic If You Can Keep It

103 30
The presidential election of 2008 reminds me of the famous Churchill quip where he not-so-jokingly declared that the greatest case against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
While this is a persuasive argument, this election's presidential field is an even more convincing one.
We have dumb, dumber, and dumbest.
We have the socialist Billary, the marxist ShObama, and the centrist democrat McSame.
Not exactly fertile ground.
As a staunch conservative, but more importantly a proud and patriotic American, what I find most disheartening is the GOP's misguided and pathetic plea for party unity, uber allis.
In supporting the party, I wonder out loud sometimes, are you not undermining the country? Unity, lest we forget, is the seed of fascism.
Obedience is mandatory it spouts, dissent will not be tolerated, and if you dare ask questions, we will call you names.
You're unpatriotic.
You're a liberal.
You're racist.
You're...
well, you're just weird.
It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, ultimately.
And so once again, the best that "my party" can do is spoon-feed me the rotten fruit of the lesser of two evils myth.
I must vote republican for the sole reason that if I don't, the country will end up with a democrat.
And that would be much worse than having a republican in office.
Because you see, even though we agree on most things, and while our candidate doesn't have a whole lot to offer, well, at least he's not a democrat.
The dems, you see, are even worse than we are.
It is the lesser of two evils, or the evil of the two lessers? Happily, republican presidential candidate Dr.
Ron Paul breaks new ground.
I will nip in the bud the following objections: Yes, but he can't win.
Not if you don't vote for him.
Yes, but they said he dropped out of the race.
Stop watching TV.
They lied.
Yes, but Ron Paul's no republican.
Well, you got me there.
After all, what republican these days respects the constitution?! Yes, but he's...
he's weird! Party unity! Party unity! And no, a vote for principal is never a wasted vote.
What other kind of vote is there? I will concede that Dr.
Paul is not as accomplished a rhetorician as Obama.
He's not as power-mad as Hillary, nor as corrupt as McCain, and he's not as corrupt as Hillary, or as insane as McCain.
I dare not speak for Dr.
Paul, but his message is simple.
Listen to it.
Peace, prosperity and freedom.
Oh, and let's not forget the rule of law.
The supreme law of the land, incidentally, is the US Constitution, originally known as the constitution for the united states of America.
A leisurely perusal of said document would reveal the following: 1.
There are three branches of government.
2.
The president is a member of the executive branch of government.
3.
The root word of executive is "execute".
4.
This then is the president's job, to execute the law.
To carry out the will of the people, as expressed by congress.
To be a servant of the people.
To ensure that the voice of the people is heard.
Think of the president as the nation's top sheriff.
5.
For example.
If the congress passes a law to protect America's borders with a border fence, it is the president's job to get that fence built.
6.
It matters not the president's personal views on abortion, or health care, or education, the internal affairs of foreign countries, or the plight of albino transvestites from Mexico.
He has not the authority to enact his personal views into law.
Read your constitution! 7.
The president does not make law.
No, it is the legislative branch that legislates.
And the legislative branch of government is known as congress.
If one individual alone makes the law, that person is known as a dictator, and you have not freedom, but tyranny.
8.
The president is not dictator of the known universe.
9.
No, the president is the protector of the U.
S.
constitution, which guarantees the rights of all Americans.
Not some Americans.
Not groups of Americans, for there is no such thing.
There are only: unique and individual Americans.
10.
To preserve, protect and defend the constitution is the oath the president takes when sworn into office.
It is the same oath that George Washington took.
11.
This is our system of government, and Dr.
Ron Paul intends to restore it.
Gentle reader, go forth today and plant a liberty tree.
Tomorrow might be too late.
