Computer & Phone Recording
- The type of phone you're using---cell phone or home phone---dictates the type of equipment needed to send the audio from your phone to your computer. If you're using a cell phone, you need to have your phone equipped with a headset jack. Without a headset jack, there's no way to send the audio signal from your cell phone to your computer.
- If you are using your home phone, you need a telephone recording adapter, along with the proper cables, to set up a connection to your computer. Using a cell phone, you can rig a connection from your cell phone's headset jack to your computer's Line-In jack by plugging a 3/32-inch stereo plug into a 3/32-inch stereo jack Y-adapter and then into your cell phone headset jack. Plug your cell phone headset into one end of the Y-adapter, and a Cell-to-Stereo adapter in the end; then use a 1/8-inch male stereo cable to connect your cell phone to your computer's Line-In jack.
- After hooking up your phone to your computer, you need to have audio recording software installed on your computer in order to record your phone conversations. (See Resources). Set up your software to use your computer sound card as the input source.
