Home Business Tips - Working On Weekends

In this article, I'm going to discuss the benefits of working on the weekend.
It may not sound like a fun thing to do, but you'd be surprised how much you can actually get done.
Keep reading to find out more.
Okay, let me make something clear right off the bat.
I rarely, if EVER, work on the weekend.
For that matter, these days, I hardly work at all, though I am more active than I was the last couple of years when I went into semi retirement.
Boredom took care of that pretty fast.
However, as I am writing this, on a Saturday no less, I am realizing that there is something about working on the weekend that is empowering.
If that sounds a little melodramatic, hang in there with me for just a little bit.
I promise that by the time you're done reading this, I'll at least get you to think about working on the weekend yourself.
What's the one thing we can all agree on about working during the week, even if it IS on your own home business? It's something you HAVE to do.
Okay, no, you don't have to.
You can go hungry and that's fine.
But if you want to keep a roof over your head, you have to get to work.
And for most of us home business owners, that happens during the work.
So it's something that we have to do.
That makes it, like it or not, kind of a drudge.
Oh, I know, it's our own business so it should be fun and games.
Well, I have a news flash for you in case you haven't already figured this out.
It isn't ALWAYS all fun and games.
Sometimes it's a royal pain in the backside, like when your sites go down or your payment processor puts your account on hold or you have a ton of spam to have to delete or whatever it is.
Running a business isn't always fun.
And when you're doing this day after day, during the week, it can start to get to you.
And when that happens, you can't WAIT for the weekend.
I know that's how I used to feel a lot back in the day when I worked five days a week.
But now, the weekend has come and you can do just about anything you want.
Have you ever noticed that some weekends there's just nothing to do? There's no sports on TV or new shows.
You've played that same dumb video game so many times that you're sick of it.
You already read the newspaper from cover to cover and you're sitting around twiddling your thumbs.
Wouldn't it be great to actually get to work and get a head start on the work week? I'm dead serious.
I figured that if I can write a couple of articles today, that puts me a day or two ahead for next week and then, if I want to, I can actually take a day off DURING the week.
Now THAT is fun.
Come on, admit it.
When you used to work a 9 to 5, the weekends were great, but what was even greater was when you got a day off DURING the week for like Thanksgiving or some other holiday.
Don't you always appreciate them more because they don't happen all the time? Let's face it, a lot of us take the weekends for granted.
So by working on the weekend, we can give ourselves a break during the week, if we want to, and feel that the time off is more special.
When was the last time you went out shopping for fun stuff during the week? But that's just one reason to want to work on the weekend.
Another is something that you really don't think about.
It has to do with the environment of your work place that's different on the weekend from during the week.
During the week, I'm home alone.
My wife teaches.
So, to be perfectly honest, it gets kind of lonely here and by 3 PM, I can't wait for her to get home.
On the weekend, she's with me, most of the time.
She'll watch the TV and I can let myself get distracted from time to time without the guilt associated with working during the week because I have to.
In other words, you're more relaxed on the weekend and when you're more relaxed, at least this is true for me, you work better.
I get more done on a Saturday when I do work weekends than I get done on any day of the week if I want to.
The stress isn't there.
The "I have to get this done" pressure isn't there.
I don't work well under pressure and I don't know many people who do.
And if I want to stop for an hour to watch something (I have a Glee lined up to watch that I recorded during the week) I can do it without feeling like I'm doing something wrong.
After all, I'm not supposed to be working anyway so what does it matter.
Point is, any work you do on the weekend is gravy.
It's something that wouldn't have normally gotten done.
And I don't know about you, but that makes me feel really good.
And what happens when you feel good? Doesn't that make you a better worker? I know it works for me.
I've enjoyed writing this article probably more than any article I've written during the week.
I didn't have to write it, but I did anyway.
It was a special accomplishment.
Will I work every weekend from here on out? I don't know.
I may and I may not.
But having done it today, and seeing how wonderful it was, I won't look at it as a horrible evil like some people do.
Sure, if you have other things you REALLY want to do on the weekend, do them.
But don't rule out getting some work done.
So before you dismiss working on the weekend as the devil himself, give it some thought.
You just might find that you prefer it to working during the week.
