How to Upgrade a Latitude C640's Hard Drive
- 1). Shut down the Latitude C640, and remove all cables from the computer, including the charging cable. Close the screen, and turn the computer over so that the cover faces down.
- 2). Remove the battery from the bottom of the Latitude C640.
- 3). Touch a grounded metal object to release static electricity from your body. For the remainder of the procedure, avoid walking on carpet.
- 4). Unscrew the single Phillips screw securing the hard drive caddy to the bottom of the Latitude C640. Place the screw where you will not lose it. Lift the plastic door covering the edge of the hard drive compartment, and then remove the Latitude C640 hard drive caddy from the computer.
- 5). Unscrew the four Phillips screws on the sides of the Latitude C640 drive caddy to release the hard drive. Lift the old hard drive out of the caddy, install the new one in the same position and replace the screws.
- 6). Push the hard drive caddy back in to the side of the Latitude C640. Lower the cover, and screw the Phillips screw back in.
