President John F. Kennedy"s Personal Rocking Chair
President John F. Kennedy's Personal Rocking Chair
Auction Date: June 8, 2006
President John F. Kennedy's rocking chair from his White House bedroom is being offered for auction at Heritage Auction Galleries. The chair was made by P & P Co. of Asheboro, North Carolina and over the years he had approximately fourteen identical chairs that were used in numerous places, such as Air Force One, his offices, bedroom etc. This chair has the original upholstery that was done by White House upholsterer Larry Arata.
From the Heritage Auction Galleries:
Several of JFK's rocking chairs have appeared on the auction market, and have proven among the most sought-after and highly valued of Kennedy relics. At the famous 1996 New York Auction of Jacqueline Kennedy's possessions, two Kennedy rockers were sold, one for $442,500, and one for $453,500. In a 1998 auction the rocker from Kennedy's suite at the Carlisle Hotel fetched $332,500, while an example lacking its Arata upholstery sold at the 2005 auction of Kennedy Family Property for "only" $96,000 (against an estimate of $20,000-$30,000).
The famed Robert White Collection, auctioned in New York in 2005, contained two Kennedy rockers. The better one was actually withdrawn from the sale, while the lesser example sold for $60,000 plus the buyer's premium.

John F. Kennedy's Personal Golf Bag
Auction Date: June 8, 2006
Letter of authentication and provenance from Mary Gallagher are included with the bag, as well as a picture shown of her with the bag in 1963. The bag is 34.5" and in excellent condition.
From Heritage Auction Galleries:
The golf bag offered here, unlike another sold with a set of clubs at auction for a high six-figure price several years ago, shows years of loving use. The tan canvas is soiled, the leather trim appropriately worn.
The documentation for the bag is impeccable: It was given to Mary Barelli Gallagher by Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy in the White House in June of 1963, when she was doing some spirited "spring cleaning." The bag had been in storage for several years, so was doubtless used by Kennedy during his senatorial years. Gallagher served as JFK's personal secretary from 1953 to 1956, and as Mrs. Kennedy's from 1956-1964. In 1969, she published My Life with Jacqueline Kennedy (New York: D. McKay Co.)

John F. Kennedy's Briefcase
Auction Date: June 8, 2006
This is a great piece of John F. Kennedy memorabilia and one that is expected to get quite a bit of attention. The briefcase was purchased by Jacqueline Bouvier as a wedding present for her husband-to-be, John F. Kennedy. The leather attache case was made by Crouch & Fitzgerald in 1952, and had his initials JFK monogrammed in gold.
The case was also used by John F. Kennedy, Jr.
at Brown University.
From Heritage Auction Galleries:
The attache is 17.5" x 12" x 5" in size, with brass key locks, snap-lock accordion files inside, the above-mentioned initials beneath the handle, and a U.S. Custom Service "Inspected Baggage" sticker on the left side. It has wear to all surfaces with separation at the hinges and loose stitching at the corners. Physically, it looks like a well-used 50+ year-old quality briefcase. Historically, it boggles the mind to speculate what Kennedy may have carried in it during his ten years of ownership.
