Bad Back - Lower Back Pain

103 216
Back pain is one of the most common problems in the UK; it affects most people at least once in their lifetime.
A brief overview of the back is as follows, the back has two main parts: the back muscles, and the spine, the back muscles are attached to the spine.
The spine consists of bones called vertebra.
The vertebrae are joined together by facet joints.
Softer disks separate the vertebrae.
These disks allow the spine to bend and flex.
Research suggests that stooped posture and poor movement patterns can result in stresses and strains that may cause lower back pain.
A way to prevent back pain is to use good back techniques while doing your daily activities.
Some of the findings from the research tell us that, working with the torso in a bent and twisted position for more than two hours a day (stooping) is a risk factor.
Being unable to change position regularly; Sitting for 4 hours or more with poor ergonomics, 44% of computer users developed lower back pain, driving for more than 4 hours a day, working for more than 75% of your time in front of a computer, working under pressure, having little influence on rest time, job stress and job dissatisfaction.
Take back pain seriously to prevent it from becoming long- term.
If you are in a job that requires you to sit for long periods of time, it may be helpful to re-organise your work space.
Being mindful of your working environment is a great place to start; there are a range of orthopaedic posture chairs with adjustments, catering to people of all shapes and sizes who suffer from muscular/back problems.
When sitting at a computer the key is don't sit slumped, pull everything upwards but avoid sitting bolt upright, the correct ergonomic chair can put you in the right position.
It has a back cushion which mirrors your back curvature, and independent seat and back adjustments.
Height adjustable armrest supports your arms and helps reduce pressure in your neck and shoulders.
Switch sitting positions often and walk around the office, or gently stretch muscles to relieve tension.
There is no evidence to suggest that one type of activity is more likely to cause back pain than another, however, it seems that the amount of time you spend in postures that are not ideal, for example, bending, sitting for long periods or stooping, will, eventually have an effect on whether you develop back pain.
