How to Repair a Bissell PowerForce Vacuum

104 29
    • 1). Turn off the PowerForce vacuum cleaner and unplug it.

    • 2). Lower the handle by stepping on the handle-release lever, located next to the machine's wheel.

    • 3). Turn the vacuum cleaner on its side so you can access the bottom of the machine.

    • 4). Remove the brush-access door by unscrewing the two screws. This will allow you to see if the belt is broken or stretched. If the belt breaks or is no longer tight against the brush bar, it will not rotate the brush, and the machine will lose suction.

    • 5). Slide the brush bar out of place and remove lint, strings or hair from it with your fingers and a pair of scissors. Lint, strings and hair can wrap around the brush bar and prevent it from turning.

    • 6). If the belt is broken, remove and replace it with a new one by wrapping one belt end around the motor pulley and the other end around the middle of the brush bar.

    • 7). Slide the brush bar back into place. Replace the brush-access door and screw it shut with the two screws.

    • 8). Unlock the dirt container by sliding the Lock 'n Seal lever to the "unlock" position. The lever is located below the dirt container on the front of the machine.

    • 9). Remove the dirt container and dump the contents directly into a trashcan.

    • 10

Untwist the inner and outer circular filters from the bottom of the dirt container. These filters can get dirty and prevent your machine from picking up dirt.

Separate the inner and outer filters by pulling them apart. Rinse them under clear, lukewarm water. Let them air-dry before putting them back together and twisting them back onto the bottom of the dirt container. Put the container back into the vacuum and lock it into place with the Lock 'n Seal lever.

Remove all of the vacuum's hoses and check them for clogs. Twist vacuum hoses to the left to unlock them. Use a long-handled brush to remove clogs. Secure the hoses again by twisting them to the right.
