How to Make Sculpey Snow Globes

104 27
    • 1). Decide which elements to include in your scene. The lid of the jar will serve as the base. It attaches to the jar, which will form the globe. Begin by forming a mound from Sculpey clay and placing it inside of the jar lid. This will be the "ground" on which the other items in your globe will stand. Green, for grass, or white, for snow, are common colors. It is advised you measure the mound for appropriate size by placing the jar over the upside-down lid and screwing it to the lid. If the mound is not the right size, try again. When it fits properly, remove the jar for the moment.

    • 2). Sculpt a "skirt" that fits around the outside of the jar lid, leaving a clear space where the jar fits into the lid. This hides the jar lid and is a nice place to write a message, if you wish. To add lettering, simply roll the clay out into a long roll and use it to shape letters. Sculpt and add the other items to the mound, or ground inside the lid. Some examples of items to add include snowmen (do this by rolling three successively smaller balls and stacking them, then adding details, just as with a real snowman) or flowers (do this by rolling a small ball for the center of a flower, then roll four or five other balls of another color and flatten them to make petals).

    • 3). Bake the skirt, the lid and the contents of the lid once you have added all of the elements that will appear inside your snow globe, following the directions that come with the Sculpey.

    • 4). Fill the empty jar with water (preferably distilled). Add glitter and confetti to the water. When the lid, or base, is cool enough, attach it to the jar, inserting the clay section upside down into the water. Make sure the lid is secure and shake to enjoy your snow globe.
