Is Talent More Important Than Hard Work When Producing Canvas Art Or Design Work?

An art teacher I had in college once told a story that made an excellent point about the importance of hard work when producing canvas art or design work.
The story went like this...
A teacher gave a class of ceramics students the task of producing the perfect vase based on its symmetry and balance of composition.
He split the class into two sections and told the first section to focus all their time and energy on the design process.
They had to come up with the idea for the perfect vase before they got down to the making of it.
To the second group he told to simply make as many vases as they could in the allotted time.
Their only task was to produce vases in volume.
When the class came to a finish it was clear that the group who had produced the most perfect vases was the latter group who were given the task of producing the largest quantity.
Constant action had meant that they had intuitively learned the art of making perfect vases.
This story illustrates an important point but it isn't to say that you should just dive into your canvas art or design endeavors and blindly take action.
It is possible to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
The antidote to this is to vary your technique.
An excellent way to do this is to find online tutorials that will introduce your to new habits of working.
Also, getting quality instruction from an experienced creative person is massively helpful.
I hope this article helps when producing canvas art and design work.
