How to Fix Coaxial Damage
- 1). Apply liquid electrical tape to minor damage on coaxial cable casing. Spread the liquid tape over the damage with a paintbrush and then leave time for the repair to dry. This method works for cable casing damage, providing the interior cable line remains intact. The tape prevents water and moisture from getting inside the cable and resulting in signal loss. Serious damage to the cable line will need a more extensive repair.
- 2). Cut out the damaged section of coaxial cable with cable cutters. This will leave you with two cable ends to join.
- 3). Use wire cutters to strip back the outer cable covering of both ends by about half an inch. Fold back the braided wire over the insulation.
- 4). Strip back the white or translucent inner cable core covering to expose the central copper wire.
- 5). Twist on cable connectors by turning them counterclockwise.
- 6). Join the two connectors by plugging them into the coaxial cable joiner.
- 7). Apply liquid electrical tape over the connection and leave this to dry.
