Watch Out For The Hidden Costs With 3d Tvs
With 3D TVs though it is probably safe to say this technology is here to stay, perhaps not out and out replacing our standard 2D televisions but certainly becoming a supplementary technology in the home. The main issue many people have when it comes to new technologies such as 3D images is the amount of additional purchases that may be involved.
With 3D televisions there are a number of additional purchases or subscriptions involved and they could be the deciding point for many people on whether to invest or not. In order to get 3D images on your TV set you first of all need a 3D TV, this is either an LCD or Plasma TV that has a quick enough image refresh rate that two images (one for each eye) can be shown quickly after each other to achieve the desired stereoscopic effect. As the latest technology, 3D TVs are in the higher price range at your local TV store but their price has come down in recent months which has prompted many to consider buying a 3D TV over a standard HD TV.
Once you have your 3D TV at home you will normally have a certain number of 3D glasses powered or unpowered that are included with your TV but these often come either as 2 sets or four. If you have more than this amount of people watching the TV at one time then you may need to purchase additional sets of glasses and with powered glasses this can become costly and this is before you even consider you may need to replace these if they were to break or be sat on!
The last consideration is where you will actually get your 3D content from, some of the latest Blu-Ray releases now come with 3D editions that you will possibly have seen in the cinema. This would obviously require a Blu-Ray player or Playstation 3 (featuring Blu-Ray playing abilities) that can be a significant cost. There are some subscription TV services that now offer 3D channels for movies, sports and some nature documentaries (i.e. shows that would benefit from 3D images) but these are often charged as a premium service adding to your monthly bills.
