How to Make Bookends for Kids
- 1). Saw two side pieces, each 6 inches long, from the pine board. Measure with the ruler, then use the triangular rafter square to draw a line across the board.
- 2). Saw two 3½ x 6 inch bases from the luan plywood or hardboard. Measure with the ruler, then use the rafter square to draw a line across the board.
- 3). Fit one side piece and one bottom piece of wood together in a bookend-like fashion at a 90-degree angle. Apply wood glue to the bottom of one pine square. Nail in four brad nails to attach the base to the side. Repeat with second set of materials
- 4). Trace the shape of the smaller bookend bottoms onto plain paper to use as the pattern for cutting the rubber shelf liner. Using the pattern as a guide, cut to size the rubber shelf liner and apply white glue with a sponge brush to bottom of bookends. The rubberized bottoms will prevent bookends from sliding on a smooth surface such as a shelf.
- 5). Decorate your bookends in whatever manner you or your child wishes once the project dries completely.
