The Five Love Languages

Do you ever wonder why some people just click with each other? It's like they have a secret language or understanding or they are on a different level to most.
It's the ultimate for any intimate relationship though it can sometimes be incredibly difficult to achieve.
Many years ago I read a wonderful book called 'The Five Love Languages' by Dr Gary Chapman.
This book explored the different ways that someone naturally expresses their love for you.
It's not limited to romantic relationships by any means but since that is primarily what we are about let's have a look at how it works.
The five languages Dr Chapman speaks of are: 1.
Gift giving.
2.
Words of affirmation.
3.
Acts of service.
4.
Quality time.
5.
Physical touch.
It's been a while since the read but to sum up the book Dr Chapman explains that we all express our love with one of these languages more predominant than the others.
This language is how we show someone they are important or special to us.
It is also the language or the way that we crave to receive love.
As humans we automatically assume that someone will understand how to communicate with us.
However, what often happens is that you may be a 'words of affirmation' type of person and your partner may be 'gift giver/receiver'.
So, as you can see you are talking and expressing yourselves in two different languages.
This doesn't mean that to have a successful relationship you need to rush out and find someone who 'speaks your language'.
That might be an ideal scenario but somewhat unrealistic.
What is important is that you can recognise not just your love language but that too of your partner and family or friends.
Understanding how someone likes to and is comfortable expressing themselves has got to take all relationships to another level whether they are intimate or not.
To be able to communicate, especially intimately, with someone in the way they crave has to be the best ever recipe for a successful relationship.
I did some digging around and found the following site where you can take the test and see just what your love language is and what it means.
Have a try yourself and if you have a partner or family members and friends why not get them on board too.
This could be an enlightening journey.
