Replacing lost collagen seems to be a reasonable way in which we could alleviate some of our wrinkles.

There are two types to collagen. The first type is called Zyderm. It is used to treat small contour problems like frown-lines, smile-lines or crows feet.
The second type is Zyplast. It is stronger. It is used to treat deeper furrows in the skin and for wrinkles in areas that receive more stress like the corners of the mouth.

Injectable collagen is most often derived from beef cattle. The collagen in beef cattle is almost identical to the collagen that is found in the human body. There are, however, allergic reaction concerns for those who are allergic to beef or beef products. About 2% of the population has beef allergies.

There will be two tests performed to ascertain that you are not among that 2%. These tests will be performed at a two week interval before your first collagen injection. Allergic reactions appear as red lumps that can ulcerate and become permanent scars.

Collagen is absorbed by the body. The results of collagen injections last about six months. They can last longer...even up to a year...but about six months is the average. Once the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear, another collagen injection treatment can be done.

There is very little or no pain associated with collagen injections. There will be no anesthetic used and no pain medication prescribed.
